Background
The National Human Development Report is an important vehicle through which UNDP has contributed to policy analysis on current and future issues, a tool able to promote human development in the local context. The HDR Brazil and the Atlas of Human Development in Brazil have a strong impact on policy development, decision making and analysis process at different levels of government - central, state and municipal government - as well as the initiatives taken by the private sector. In recent years, human development has become an essential ingredient in the national planning process.
After the launch of the Atlas of Human Development 2013, UNDP Brazil is engaged, with IPEA and Fundação João Pinheiro, in improving the Atlas online platform/database, as well as in the preparation and launch of the Atlas of the Atlas of Brazilian Metropolitan Areas, with their indices and related products.
The National Human Development Report will consist of an independent research which will aim to provide an analysis of recent trends in human development in Brazil and its municipalities from topics such as inequality and the current challenges of city management. The expectation is that the UNDP Report will be released in early 2014 and several post-launching events and products will be produced during 2014.
Under the guidance of the HDR Coordinator, the HDR Clerk will provide administrative support services, assist the building process and dissemination of National Human Development Report 2014, support the process of improving the online platform of the Atlas and other activities related to Atlas of the Metropolitan Areas, support the development and design of basic analysis of municipalities and states, organize and monitor travels and meetings, among other relevant activities, ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work to the Human Development Report Team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
1. Provides effective support to the HDR Coordination, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Preparation of routine correspondence, faxes, memoranda, letters, invitations and other documents;
  • Organization of documents (maintenance of files in the HDR Unit/hardcopy and electronic filing of all supporting documentation, project documents);
  • Administrative and logistical support for the organization of meetings, seminars, workshops, and other events;
  • Technical support for the preparation (writing and design) of papers, technical documents, briefings and reports;
  • Prepare internal/external dynamic presentations, brochures and media materials related to the HDR and its products, with accurate information and creative design and innovative visualization of information;
  • Assist activities related to the dissemination of the National and Global Human Development Report, National Atlas and launch and dissemination of the Atlas of Brazilian Metropolitan Areas;
  • Support the preparation and launch of other national reports developed by the Country Office.
Impact of Results
Efficient administrative and technical support, including creative design inputs, have an impact on the quality and implementation of the HDR products.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Ongoing graduation in International Relations, Social Sciences or related fields, having completed at least 50% of the graduation;
Experience:
  • 1 year of relevant experience in administrative support on activities related to the ones described in this Term of Reference;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, Adobe Photoshop/Adobe InDesign, Prezi, and production of media and seminar presentations;
  • Experience in the organization of workshops, seminars and meetings;
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience related to Human Development and the Human Development Index;
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience related to social and economic indicators;
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in reviewing publications.
  • Experience in writing and designing briefings related to socioeconomic analysis;
  • Previous working experience with the United Nations and knowledge of UN Rules and Regulations
Languages:
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English. Working knowledge Spanish is an asset
