Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Knowledge Management Service provides strategy and tools to enable an effective knowledge management environment in which United Nations personnel and their stakeholders capture, share and disseminate the substantive knowledge relevant to their expertise. The Sales/Marketing Intern reports to Information Systems Officer within the Social Collaboration and Networking Unit. The Department of Management/OICT/KMS internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities: The Intern will support the development and implementation of a communications plan and approach for Unite Connections, a social collaboration platform, as well as, community management. He/she will be responsible for supporting the drafting or producing of specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, etc.) of information communications products for target audiences, to include promotional products, brochures, online content (e.g. blog posts and wikis), graphics, and video clips. Candidates must be familiar with social media, web-based tools, and graphic design tools in order to carry out the responsibilities outlined above. Responsibilities will also include the following:
Conceptualizes and drafts promotional copy for use in different marketing channels, including advertising, Internet, and e-mail.
Conceptualizes and creates graphic material for varied print and electronic media projects such as brochures, posters, web pages, blogs, and e-newsletters.
Prepares and coordinates inclusion of new material in websites and online communities; drafts wiki content and blog posts; prepares and incorporates graphics as needed using Photoshop, Illustrator, or other graphic design software.
Assists in the development of questionnaire surveys and the analysis of the results and coordinates market research mailings and related activities.
Support the Information Systems Officer to ensure content and materials meet the communication and engagement goals of the Social Collaboration and Networking Unit.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages; have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree. Be computer literate in standard software applications; have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have the ability to interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
