Responsibilities
This Generic Job Opening has been advertised to attract applications from qualified candidates, including those staff members serving as Logistics Assistant.Within delegated authority, the Movement Control Assistant will carry out the following duties: (These duties are generic, and may not be performed by all Movement Control Assistants)
  • Supervises the receiving and shipping of cargo to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct
  • Ensures that paperwork is correct and the items are loaded safely and correctly
  • Ensures aircraft are loaded in accordance with passenger and cargo load plans
  • Ensures that incoming luggage/cargo is handed over to the respective passenger and/or delivered in accordance with the manifest
  • Informs passengers of aviation safety requirements prior to embarkation
  • Liaises with local authorities for custom and immigration issues
  • Coordinates with Air Operations Centre, Tower, Ramp Controllers and Air Safety personnel at Airport
  • Compiles manifests
  • Provides flight schedules, route and timing information
  • Ensures Dangerous Goods are transported in accordance with the applicable international Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • Monitors the movement of cargo, records and maintains all relevant details related thereto
  • Records passenger and cargo statistics
  • Supervises passenger clerks and cargo handlers to ensure that all movements of personnel, goods and equipment are carried out in accordance with UN rules, regulations and safety procedures
  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and budgets related to movements and in the verification and processing of movement-related invoices
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High school or equivalent diploma is required.
  • Technical or vocational certificate in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field is desirable.
Work Experience
  • At least 6 years of progressive responsible experience in movement control, commercial freight forwarding, airline operations, logistics management or a related field.
  • Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.
Languages
  • French and English are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
  • For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
