Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Keep abreast of all developments in relation to Humanitarian Assistance within Syria to prepare appropriate briefings and reports.
  2. Liaise closely with all Units in the country in order to gather and collate accurate data about assistance activities;
  3. Act as a backup to the Reporting Officer in the creation of weekly internal reports, briefing packages for the Representative's outgoing meetings, briefing notes for high-level members of staff and external relations officers in the region on Syria, briefing packages for high-level visitors to Syria and updating the PowerPoint presentation of the operation.
  4. Collaborate closely with UN OCHA information office and other agencies so as to ensure a smooth exchange of information between UNHCR and the UNCT. In particular, actively contribute to the regular OCHA updates as well as to any urgent requests from OCHA and other UN agencies.
  5. Help establish, document review and refine process of working collaboratively with partners, including meetings, joint projects information sharing etc.
  6. Assist in creating and updating standard operating procedures within the Reporting Unit.
  7. Work closely with GIS to ensure accurate and attractive data presentation on the maps;
  8. Draft and/or check all reports from management;
  9. Perform other duties as required
Qualification & Education Required:
  • Strong demonstrated experience in drafting reports in English (Arabic would also be an asset). Please provide or send links of any published work if available.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic is desirable
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems, internet navigation and various office applications.
Education and Skills: The candidate must have University degree in social sciences, international relations, political science or other relevant field;
Experience: At least two years of progressively responsible work experience
DUTY STATION AND TRAVEL: The post is based in Damascus with possible travel within the country for reporting tasks on emergency-related activities. Every four weeks the candidate will be able to go on R&R (Rest and Recuperation) outside Syria
OTHER SKILLS NEEDED: Flexibility, judgment, maturity, ability to work with a team. Ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity.
