Job: Legal Consultant on Procurement Issues

Duties:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Legal Services Section, and in coordination with the responsible legal officer(s), the consultant shall:
  • Draft legal advice on contracts and procurement issues, including the development, implementation and interpretation of regulations and rules, and the review of bidding documents for the procurement of goods and services by the Commission;
  • Provide legal advice during contract negotiations conducted by the Procurement Section as may be necessary;
  • Perform legal research related to contracts law;
The consultant may be assigned any other duties in furtherance of the Commission's activities.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in law, including contracts law, required; additional advanced university degree in international law would be desirable;
  • Work experience in the field of contracts law required, preferably in the United Nations common system;
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating contracts is essential;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.
Competencies:
  • Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results and be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Very good skills in communicating with people from different backgrounds and demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.
