Mine Action Cluster
The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster was established in 1997. Based in New York, it has helped partners to significantly improve the lives of people in more than 30 countries across the world. The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster has supported Mine Action efforts in both emergency and post conflict settings. It delivers fast procurement, recruitment and management services to facilitate humanitarian aid and launch emergency mine clearance. Functional Responsibilities
Under the direct guidance of theOperations/Quality Assurance (OPS/QA) Officer and overall supervision of the Chief of Operations; the OPs/QA Assistant will assist in the coordinating of operations and quality assurance activities within South Sudan.
Specific tasks/responsibilities include:
  • Assist in setting up and conducting operations and quality assurance activities of the SouthSudan Prorgamme.
  • Under the guidance of the OPS/QA Officer, collect, analyze and disseminate OPs/QA related information to all stake holders.
  • Provide correct and accurate date regarding mines/UXOs situation in the Country to be entered inIMSMA database.
  • Under the guidance of the OPs/QA Officer, help with the coordination of all Operations requirements in South Sudan in accordance with nationally established criteria.
  • Under theguidance of the Ops /QA Officer, help in developing Operations capacity to coordinate and monitor mine action activities in accordance with the National Technical Standards and Guidelines (NTSGs)
  • If requested, participatein Boards of Inquiry initiated by UNMAS.
  • Assist in establishing an operational management system.
  • Assist in coordinating and advising UN agencies; NGOs and local authorities in mine action Operations related issues.
  • Assist inidentifying and developing follow on components of the mine action plan as required in supporting programme activities.
  • Accurate and regular reporting to the OPS/QA Officer and implementing partners when needed
  • Assist the OPS/QA Officer in drafting plans, reports and related documents as required to support programme activities
  • Collate and distribute technical information on mines, UXO and booby trap threat.
  • Participate in advocacy against the use of mines.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the OPS/QA Officer or Chief of Operations.

Education
  • Secondary Education with specialized certification/diploma in related field.
  • University degree in related area would be desirable, but it is not a requirement;
Experience
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Office 2003 and/or newer versions) and experience in handling of web-based management systems.
  • Knowledge of UN/UNOPS rules and regulations will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) is essential;
  • Fluency in written and oral English
  • Valid Driving License.
  • Capable to work in a multi-national / cultural environment;
  • Flexibility in undertaking any kind of assignment;
Contract type, level and duration
Contract type: Local Individual Contractor Agreement
Contract level: LICA - 5
Contract duration: 6 months, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
