Research Officer (Laboratory) (2 posts) with the Surveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation Research Group under the Centre for HIV and AIDS (Advertisement #280/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Research Officer (Laboratory) (2 posts) with the Surveillance, Monitoring & Evaluation Research Group under theCentre for HIV and AIDS. The appointment will be made on a Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis for 3 months.
Duty Station - Dhaka.
Salary - Tk.33,386/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. No other benefit is admissible.
Job Profile
- Protocol implementation: Understand protocols for laboratory implementation; Study published journals, analyze laboratory assay data and review stored samples available; Provide lab information as required in order to support Principal Investigators.
- Performing assay: Perform and carry out laboratory assays as per direction from supervisor; Perform laboratory tests such as HIV ELISA, HIV confirmation test by Western blot and Syphilis test by RPR, TPPA and generate test report for the project; Revise analysis based on guidance from supervisor and discussions with other team members; Understand and maintain the quality assurance procedure for laboratory testing in order to ensure quality lab test.
- Supervision of field lab team: Prepare work plan for the laboratory works of the project; Supervise lab technicians and field assistants; Support team to facilitate lab activities; Follow up and report to lab supervisor regarding day to day work; Follow up of the lab logistics to ensure logistics supply for field staff and maintain record; Check sample storage system periodically and update record of using stored samples; Implement quality control and cold chain management system for the stored samples in order to ensure quality lab operations.
- Report writing and scientific knowledge creation: Generate report on laboratory test results based on the guidance from supervisor; Maintain strict confidentiality for research report preparation; Write initial report, analyze database and prepare preliminary analysis for supervisor in order to prepare research report.
- Implement bio-safety measures: Monitor lab team and follow procedure for appropriate bio-safety measures in the assigned laboratory during testing; Discard pathogens in hypo-chloride; Neutralize harsh reagents before disposing as per SOP; discard waste material in bio-hazard bag for autoclaving and incineration in order to ensure implementation of bio-safety measures.
Requirements
Education and Relevant Experience:
- Masters in Microbiology/Biochemistry;
- 3 years of laboratory work experience with molecular biology.
