Background
Under the overall guidance of the Chief Security Advisor (CSA) and the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO), the Local Security Assistant (LSA)-Trainer assists in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the management of safety and security of UN personnel and operations in the duty station. This position is funded from the cost shared budget of the local United Nations Security Management Team.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the CSA/FSCO in collecting and communicating updated information about the security situation affecting the duty station and region;
  • Assists the CSA/FSCO in the development of Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) and security procedures for the duty station;
  • Maintains an accurate daily staff list for UN personnel operating from the duty station;
  • Assists with the delivery of security awareness and preparedness briefings to UN personnel at the duty station;
  • Provides administrative assistance to the CSA/FSCO at the duty station.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Bachelor degree in IT, business administrations, social studies, or related studies field or relevant studies is a requirement;
Experience:
  • 4 years experience in security, preferably in military or police context, or related field of work. Experience in Training and Lecturing;
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an International NGO is desirable;
  • Knowledge of HF and VHF radios; Experience in developing training programs;
  • Solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Earth;
  • Possession of a valid driver's license;
Languages:
  • Fluency in spoken & written English and Arabic is required;
Other Requirements:
  • Physically fit;
  • Willing to work at night, weekends and holidays.
