Background / General description
The IFC Latin America and Caribbean department is looking for a Communications Officer for its Bogotá office to develop and implement a communications strategy for IFC’s work in the Andean region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador. Peru and Venezuela). The Communications Officer will be based in the IFC office in Bogotá. Colombia is the hub for IFC’s operations in the Andean region. The Communications Officer's main accountability is to plan, develop and implement an effective external and internal communications strategy for the IFC investment and advisory services operations in the Andean region countries, which should include a range of activities including a positioning plan, marketing and branding, promoting innovative and high impact projects, and managing reputational risks on sensitive or controversial projects. The Communications Officer will work as an integral part of the IFC LAC communications practice group. He/she will have dual reporting lines to the IFC Manager for the Andean region based in Colombia and the IFC Head of Communications in LAC.
Duties and Accountabilities
  • Responsible for planning, designing and executing a communications strategy and activities for IFC’s operations in the Andean region countries.
  • Use a variety of tools, techniques, and resources to support business development and to strengthen the IFC brand in the Andean region countries, including press releases, media pitching, website development, social media, promotional materials, business conferences.
  • Increase coverage and understanding of the IFC’s work in the Andean region countries through developing media contacts and providing newsworthy information to local, regional, international publications and other media.
  • Support the IFC regional manager in engaging with media and other stakeholders.
  • Support the investment and advisory services team in developing specific strategies for high profile or potentially sensitive projects. Develop reputational risk management and crisis management strategies for specific projects.
  • Work with clients to develop joint communications plans on projects supported by IFC and to maximize media exposure. Provide advice to clients to strengthen communications capacity when needed.
  • Coordinate and track IFC’s participation in key business conferences that help position IFC in Andean region countries. Help strengthen strategic partnerships with conferences’ organizers.
  • Coordinate with colleagues in World Bank offices in Andean countries to leverage resources and increase awareness and understanding of IFC’s work as a member of the World Bank Group, including coordinating media outreach activities.
  • Create Andean region country pages in the IFC LAC external website. Contribute to internal communications initiatives, develop external branding programs and produce marketing materials.
  • As a member of the LAC Communications team, he/she would be expected to provide support on LAC regional initiatives/tasks as needed.
  • The candidate should be available to travel across the Andean region countries.
     
    Selection Criteria
  • Masters degree preferred, plus a minimum of 5 years work experience in public relations, media relations, journalism; previous experience with a multilateral, financial institution or private sector company would be helpful.
  • Prior experience as a business journalist in Colombia or in corporate communications in the country, strongly preferred.
  • Self-motivated, creative, excellent organizational skills, proven ability to perform multiple tasks, and ability to work with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in Spanish (native Spanish speaker preferred) and English.
  • Exceptional ability to write, communicate, operate under pressure and tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.
