OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Background
The European Union (EU) Delegation in Jordan has funded the UNESCO Amman Office in order to provide technical support services requested by the Jordanian Ministry of Education (MoE) for implementing a sustainable overhaul of its Education Management Information System (EMIS) along with the provision of large-scale field operations for institutional and human capacity development to allow the MoE to be a in greater position to make use of accurate data and indicators in its effort to systematize evidence-based formulation and prioritization of policy responses to mitigate the challenges faced by the Jordanian Education Sector.
This comes in addition to the EU support to the UNESCO Office in Amman in order to contribute to expanding relevant and good quality learning and skills development opportunities for the Syrian refugees children and youth in Jordan.
Duties and requirements
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education and of the Head of the UNESCO Amman Office, the direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist, the Public Relations Officer shall serve as the main focal person to ensure the overall communication and visibility actions for the EU Projects' activities implementation. S/he will play a key role within the Education Sector of UNESCO Amman Office by developing a UNESCO-EU brand awareness strategy and securing the continuous attention on the EU funded projects in the Jordanian print, electronic and online/social media networks.
Specifically, s/he will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, update, and implement the public relations and visibility strategy including the detection/identification of any relevant opportunities of visibility, such as but not limited to, identification of key media outlets' editorial calendars of relevance to the project, development and launch of media campaigns in collaboration with local media, social actors and organisations, preparation and wide dissemination of various promotional materials;
- Develop compelling storylines, press releases, articles, editorials, op-eds for national and local media, give interviews, to help the project achieve the highest visibility possible in print, broadcast, TV and online media outlets;
- Coordinate inputs from all EU funded projects staff and ensure the smooth flow of relevant information within the education sector.
- Conduct field visits along with UNESCO Amman Education staff to take photos, videos, conduct interviews, and gather background information on the ongoing programs Developing and updating information on the project's web page;
- on UNESCO Amman's Twitter account, You Tube and Facebook pages along with any other social media platforms.
- Conduct field visits to take photos and videos to be able to post compelling visuals along with written news items;
EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years relevant experience in public relations and communication with reputable agencies.
- Excellent written and oral English and Arabic skills. the EU or the UN system is an asset
- University degree, equivalent to Master, of Science or Arts Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related fields
SKILLS
- Ability and experience in designing Public Relation strategy and execute a Communication Plan in a timely manner
- Ability to create and develop strong professional networks/relationships with renown media sector editorialists,
- Excellent acquaintance with the media ecology and networks in Jordan as well as strong familiarity with the social
- Acute sense of precision, judgment, tact and diplomacy along with a strong commitment to teamwork.
- Computer skills: proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and PR infographic design applications
- Flexibility to work under tight deadline, pressure, adjust work schedules and priorities dynamics, local communities structures, cultural and religious sensitivities analysts and with social media/blogger communities
UNESCO's salaries are calculated in Local currencies and exempt from income tax. They consist of a basic salary and other benefits such as 30 days annual leave, family allowance, pension plan and medical insurance.
