Assignment:
- Under the general supervision of the Head, Monitoring Facilities Operations Unit, International Data Centre Division, to:Manage specific aspects of Monitoring Facilities operations:
- Be responsible for the regular operation of a predetermined set of Seismic Hydroacoustic and Infrasound (SHI) International Monitoring System (IMS) Facilities: perform daily operational and performance review of the facilities, identify problems with data acquisition or quality, and communicate with the stations' operators;
- Support the implementation of the authentication and data surety in operations of IMS network;
- Assure the conformity of the operational procedures, including the delivery of all the necessary reports; PR, CCN, CCR, OR and MR;
- Review the monthly and station summary reports submitted under Post Certification Activities (PCA) contracts;
- Be part of the roster for the Operations Centre activities;
- Participate in the development of the operational procedures for the Operations Centre;
- Provide technical assistance and services to State parties through the Support Help Desk;
- Review and optimize performance of the scripts used in daily monitoring under the Linux platform;
- Contribute to the development of remote troubleshooting procedures for the Monitoring Facilities Operation Unit;
- Contribute to development of documentation on remote troubleshooting procedures;
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in science or engineering related to IMS monitoring technologies;
- A least 7 years of relevant working experience;
- Thorough knowledge of and in-depth technical skills in all aspects of IMS operations and monitoring technologies;
- Knowledge of Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) Operational Procedures and relationships with IMS Station Operators;
- Excellent skills in handling station incidents, troubleshooting, analysis, and reporting;
- Experience with Information Management systems (DOTS, IRS, OMC-DOC);
- Relevant computer and programming skills (Windows MS Office, Unix, Linux, Perl, SQL), in particular the use of Oracle database applications;
- Experience in training and imparting knowledge to others and producing training materials and delivering training courses;
- Efficiency in dealing with urgent issues and multiple tasks;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.
