Assignment:
- The Commission is requesting a consultant to provide support for the development of infrasound data quality control (QC) tools. The purpose of these tools is to monitor the quality of the infrasound data recorded by the International Monitoring System (IMS) infrasound network.Under the Supervision of the Infrasound Engineering Officer, Engineering and Development Section, International Monitoring System, to:Task 1: IMS infrasound data QC tools:
- The consultant shall perform extended testing on metrics and thresholds used for the identification of data quality issues of IMS micropressure channels;
- The consultant shall write a report on the test results of these metrics and thresholds;
- The consultant shall review and update infrasound station/channel parameters (new parameter conventions, mission capability, channel naming, sensitivity) to ensure that they are in agreement with specifications;
- The consultant shall investigate discrepancies between Database of the Technical Secretariat (DOTS) and International Data Centre (IDC) infrasound station/channels parameters, raise issues in problem reports and make sure that all required changes are implemented;
- The consultant shall analyse IMS micropressure noise levels computed by the IDC QC tools and verify that they are in agreement with specifications;
Qualifications:
- University degree in computer sciences or electrical engineering;
- At least 10 years of experience in the field of software development;
- Proven knowledge and in-depth technical skills in all aspects of IMS monitoring stations;
- Excellent skills in handling station documentation, troubleshooting, data analysis, and reporting;
- Strong experience with Python, C++, SQL, Perl, PHP and other programming languages;
- Experience with UNIX and Windows-based systems, graphic user interfaces, web applications, object-oriented analysis and software documentation;
- Experience with signal processing techniques and geophysical-data analysis;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential; Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.
