The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is the largest and leading source of financing for regional development in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Washington DC and with 26 Country Offices in each borrowing country. Under the Bank's structure there are four Country Departments whose main responsibilities are\: a) direct Bank's dialogue with countries; b) develop, implement, and monitor, Bank's country and regional strategies; c) Support the development of work programs attuned to client demand and country contexts; d) Oversee delivery of country and regional operational programs and measures performance of sectors and support services; e) provide strategic and technical guidance to Country Offices regarding country program decisions, including portfolio management.
The Country Department for Belize, Central America, Mexico, Panama and Dominican Republic is looking for Winter Interns who will support a wide range of functions aimed at strengthening the sector-focused analytical work with the ultimate objective of enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of the operations of the Bank in the countries of the region.
Responsibilities
- Support economic research on sector level issues relevant for policy definition and implementation, in coordination with the relevant Sector Department.
- Participate in discussions of economic and social trends and issues with national authorities, organizations, and relevant bilateral and multilateral agencies, pursuing the establishment a firm basis for Bank activity in the country.
- Support the regional economic advisor in monitoring economic developments in the region
- Prepare relevant technical notes/presentations
- Prepare briefings on economic issues
- Support the organization and execution seminars, conferences, and other professional events aimed at strengthening the Bank's analytical capabiliti
Qualifications
Educational Background\:
Master's degree student or equivalent in Economics
Computer Skills\:
Proficiency in STATA, working knowledge of E-Views and MATLAB
Languages\:
Proficiency in either English or Spanish with strong verbal/written communication skills in the second language is required.
