The Felipe Herrera Library is looking for two candidates
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the largest and leading source of financing for regional development in Latin America and the Caribbean, is seeking a Winter Intern for its Felipe Herrera Library (FHL) unit within the Knowledge and Learning Department (KNL). The goal of FHL is to deliver customized information dissemination products in a timely and efficient manner to Bank-wide target clients. One important component of dissemination is the Bank's Repository of Institutional Knowledge, BRIK, where all of the documents, studies, publications, etc. of the IDB are housed. BRIK is coordinated by KNL/FHL. The candidate should have a strong interest in connecting customers with information seamlessly and a proactive attitude towards information dissemination.
The selected candidate will provide support to the BRIK Team and library Cataloger in activities related to the maintenance and growth of the IDB's Institutional Knowledge Repository as well as the management of donations.
Responsibilities
The intern will work with KNL/FHL staff performing the following activities:
1. BRIK, Bank Repository of Publications
1.1. Review and merge duplicate records of existing publications in the repository.
1.2. Review errors resulting from the batch imports carried out during the creation of the platform. This quality control task involves:
1.2.a. Reviewing abstracts for complete information and correct spelling and syntax
1.2.b. Moving, merging and/or deleting records
1.2.c. Reviewing metadata for consistency with BRIK standards
1.3. Assist with uploading sector notes and other documents from the Vice Presidency for Countries (VPC).
2. Embedded librarian support
2.1. Provide assistance to librarians working embedded in the social (SCL), infrastructure (INE), and institutions for development (IFD) sector teams in the processes of:
2.1.a. Searching for information and creating information dissemination portals
2.2.b. Identifying new publications in process; supporting new publications readiness for release.
3. Taxonomy update and quality control
3.1. Review candidate terms and consult with librarians and sector specialists in the decision making processes for incorporation.
3.2. Establish child-parent relationships, as well as synonyms, preferred terms, etc.
4. Donations
4.1. Process and sort the donations received.
Qualifications
Experience:
Knowledge of search techniques and attention to detail required. Experience delivering client-oriented reference services in a fast-paced working environment is a definite asset. Knowledge of metadata schemes and/or cataloging a plus. Working knowledge on taxonomies is preferred.
Education:
Studying a master's or equivalent in library science or information sciences, communication or social sciences, areas related to information management and dissemination, or social/economic issues related to development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Computer Skills:
Open source digital repositories, particularly DSpace; taxonomy or ontology management software; integrated library systems; searching, browsing and navigating the Web; MS Office application (Word, Excel, PowePoint)
Languages:
The intern must have a good command of at least two of the official languages of the Bank (Spanish and English preferred).
