Background Information - Job-specific
The Spanish Translator will work in the Communications Unit under the supervision of the Spanish Translator/Translator Coordinator and will report directly to the Head of the Communication Unit.
The Communication Unit is responsible for producing and disseminating information about UNOPS for external audiences, as well as facilitating the flow of information within the organization, ensuring efficient service delivery and broad sharing ofknowledge and best practices.
The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.
Functional Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for translating internal and external documents for print and web. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Translating materials to/from English and Spanish
- Process written materials from English into Spanish
- Process written materials from Spanish into English.
2. Supporting implementation of UNOPS Communications Strategy
- Provide accurate and timely translation of documents and technical materials into the target language.
- Render UNOPS communications, internal as well as external, as user-friendly as possible for English and Spanish speakers.
3. Supporting the UNOPS website and intranet
- Provide accurate and timely translation of web pages, related documents and technical materials covering a broad range of subject matter into the target language.
- Liaise with subject matter experts to ensure accurate use of technical terms.
- Respect deadlines.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the spirit, style and nuances of the original material and ensure consistency with other translators, if any, working on the same document.
4. Supporting Executive Office communications
- Provide accurate and timely translation of Executive Office documents, correspondence, presentations and speeches
- Translate from English into Spanish high visibility, all-staff and other emails sent by the Executive Office

Education/Experience/Language requirementsEducation: Advanced University degree in Translation is highly desired. Secondary Education is required. Experience: If combined with Secondary Education: 3 years of translation experience from English to Spanish is required. If combined with an Advanced University degree: no prior work experience is required Language: Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of French is considered an asset.
