Senior Research Officer with the Research Group of Gender, Health, Human Rights and violence against Women under the Centre for Equity and Health Systems (Advertisement #365/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position ofSenior Research Officer with the Research Group of Gender, Health, Human Rights and violence against Women under the Centre for Equity and Health Systems. The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 1 year, which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
Duty station – Dhaka.
Salary – Annual Tk.506,840/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances with other admissible benefits.
Benefits/facilities – 14.8% retirement fund contribution by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,420/- per child per month, medical facilities for dependent spouse and children, group life insurance. Subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities subject to availability.
Job Profile:
  • Proposal and Protocol Development: Provide input to Research Investigator on proposals and protocols development; Draft sections of protocols relating to qualitative research (e.g. questionnaire, guidelines); Review protocol for adherence to qualitative research principles and make appropriate suggestions to Research Investigator in order to support the creation of sound proposals and protocols with funding potential.
  • Project Implementation: Plan for field work (allocation of locations and duties, requisitions for logistics / transport / petty cash etc.) and validate with Research Investigator; Work with supervisor in developing research tools; Train field staff on research methods and protocol activities; Monitor field staff data collection activities and verify their quality of work through independent data collection; Resolve issues, and raise escalations to Research Investigator, if required; Guide team members to transcribe interviews verbatim; Direct team members to create coded dataset of responses using interview transcriptions; Analyse dataset and prepare preliminary analysis in order to capture data and information for analysis.
  • Scientific Analysis, Knowledge Creation and Report Writing: Review information and data captured, and develop possible manuscript ideas in collaboration with Research Investigator; Perform analysis based on direction from Research Investigator; Create a report with findings and share with supervisor; Revise analysis based on guidance from Research Investigator and discussions with other team members; Write sections of the manuscript under advice of Research Investigator; Convene a meeting of all authors to review proposed manuscript; Gather input and make corrections to manuscript; Peer review manuscripts and abstracts of other authors and provide them input and feedback in order to support scientific manuscript creation while developing one's own scientific writing abilities.
  • Mentoring and Training: Guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports and documents (e.g. qualitative research methods, PMDS formalities); Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field; Provide feedback to supervisor on team members' performance; in order to spread knowledge and develop team members.
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience:
  • Masters in Anthropology;
  • 5 years of experience in qualitative research.
Functional Competencies
  • Knowledge on Qualitative Data Collection Methods involving some sensitive topics;
  • Knowledge on Qualitative Data Analysis; data management, data cleaning, coding and analysis
  • Knowledge on developing research tools;
  • Knowledge on Ethical Guidelines;
  • Knowledge of computer operations (MS Office, Statistical);
  • Knowledge of Scientific writing.
