Senior Field Research Officer with the Research Group of Zoonotic Diseases under the Centre for Communicable Diseases (Internal Advertisement #367/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates (staff members and CSA holders) for the position ofSenior Field Research Officer with the Research Group of Zoonotic Diseases under the Centre for Communicable Diseases. The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 1 year, which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
Duty station – Dhaka
Salary – Annual Tk.506,840/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances with other admissible benefits.
Benefits/facilities – 14.8% retirement fund contribution by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,420/- per child per month, medical facilities for dependent spouse and children, group life insurance. Subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities subject to availability.
Job Profile
  • Proposal and Protocol Development: Understand protocols developed by Research Investigator; Analyze protocol for feasibility of field implementation; Provide inputs on protocol and methodologies; Create preliminary budgets for protocols; Revise budgets after consultation with Research Investigator; Review protocol for adherence to quantitative research principles and make appropriate suggestions in order to support creation of proposals and protocols with funding potential.
  • Project Implementation: Understand research protocol and data collection techniques Research Investigator; Train field staff on data collection methods specific to the project; Provide instruction and guidance to field staff during implementation of study; essential functions will be ensuring consistency and quality of questionnaire administration and documentation in the field, quality control and facilitating the identification of possible study participants of the study, implementation of intervention. Logistic organization, field team management; maintain good relations with study team as well as community participants. Sample processing, maintain cold chain, storage and arranging transportation from field to icddr,b laboratory; and preservation of the sample.
  • Scientific Analysis, Knowledge Creation and Report Writing: Perform analysis based on direction from Research Investigator; write initial report, based on one's own analysis, experience and understanding of the work.
  • Mentoring and Training: Guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports and documents; Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field; Provide feedback to supervisor on team members' performance
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from any recognized university with good academic records;
  • 4 years work experience in avian influenza research; however, prior experience in working with poultry, restrain and specimen collection would be given preference.
Functional Competencies:
  • Very good knowledge on data collection tools and methodologies;
  • Knowledge of Ethical Guidelines;
  • Able to communicate effectively;
  • Good proficiency in using software applications, particularly MS Office.
