Organizational Description
The Centre for Economic and Social Development (CESD) is an independent think tank focusing on research and programs aimed at delivering effective policy solutions to further Myanmar's reform process. The centre undertakes research and other initiatives on critical economic, governance and development issues. CESD is one of three centres operating as part of the Myanmar Development Resource Institute (MDRI), a non-government research institute founded by U Myint and other senior advisers to the Myanmar president.
MDRI-CESD is a dynamic and growing organization looking for active research-minded individuals interested in working in a high energy environment. Research team members will have an opportunity to engage on compelling policy issues and will have a chance to support initiatives with a potential for high impact.
Position Overview
The Research Associate is responsible for conducting both primary and secondary research on a variety of aspects of governance issues in Myanmar. The Research Associate will be based at the Yangon office, but will also need to travel to Naypyitaw to present and discuss research findings, as well as travel to various locations around Myanmar (including remote border regions) to conduct field research.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify research topics and develop research questions.
- Be involved in formulating research design and methodology
- Conduct fieldwork
- Conduct quality assurance monitoring and provide feedback
- Liaise with agencies conducting fieldwork
- Ensure high quality data management processes
- Conduct data analysis
- Write papers, reports and policy briefs
- Assist in the facilitation of training/workshops on topics related to research carried out
Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates must have:
- Master's Degree in Politics, Political Science or related subject.
- Strong experience in qualitative and/or quantitative social research.
- Ability to plan and conduct work with minimal supervision.
- Track record of delivering research findings to deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and fluent spoken English and Burmese.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills. Candidates must also be:
- Physically fit.
- Willing and able to travel to remote border areas of Myanmar.
