Main Responsibilities / Duties
- Establish positive working relationship with Basic Health Staff (BHS) and support BHS with Mother and Child activities in Rural Health Center (RHC)/Rural Health Sub Center (RHSC) which includes Reproductive Health, EPI and children under 5;
- Collaborate with RHC/RHSC staff in community-based activities with emphasis on improving the quality of home deliveries and of ante-and postnatal check-ups through trainings and on-going mentoring and monitoring of AMWs and TBAs;
- Participate in field visits and in health related meetings in the community, independently and/or in collaboration with the Basic Health Staff (BHS);
- Facilitate MSG activities with focus on
- raising awareness and increasing the communities' knowledge, and
- improving their attitude and practices on Mother and Child issues;
- When necessary, provide care or assistance for emergency cases;
- Monitor the distribution and use of Malteser drugs, supplies, basic equipment and other materials to the BHS, AMWs and TBAs;
- Maintain a client-friendly atmosphere that is non-judgemental, sensitive and supportive of clients/patients regardless of their background, with special attention for respect of medical confidentially;
- Adhere and respect Malteser International guidelines and codes;
- Diploma in Midwifery;
- At least two years of relevant experience in a hospital or clinic;
- Previous working experience in a rural setting and able to understand challenges faced by rural communities in relation to poor health, and lack of knowledge;
- Able to work independently in a remote area;
- Able to live and work with minimum available basic facilities in the field;
- Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and able to deal with the local communities;
- Fluency in local community languages will be an asset;
- Previous experience with UN or NGO will be an asset.
