Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), Documentation Division, Text-Processing Section of the United Nations at UNHQ. The incumbent reports to the Spanish Text-Processing Unit Supervisor and/or Chief of Section.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisor of the Spanish Text-Processing Unit, the Assistant Supervisor organizes, plans, and control the distribution of the work of the unit, ensuring the timely and efficient processing of typographically formatted parliamentary documents, their transmission to the Publishing Section, and their archiving onto the Official Document System (ODS); trains and guides junior staff; works on rotating shifts, and overtime, and replaces the unit supervisor when needed; registers incoming/outgoing documents in order to control flow of work in and out of the unit; registers, processes and records all assignments in e-Doc/IAM on a daily basis; maintains daily statistics, performs administrative work, as needed. Identifies and retrieves documents from ODS and researches and verifies terminology on the Intranet, performs daily maintenance of the unit network drives; provides assistance to the Spanish Translation Service by aligning English texts; assists in training staff to align bi-texts to support the production of translation memories to be used by translators for computer assisted tools; provides assistance in training staff to perform other modified text-processing functions developed under gText or related workflow reviews in the area of pre-processing or pre-translation of texts. Performs other related work as required.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Additional formal training in Desktop Publishing or related field is highly desirable. Must have passed the relevant United Nations Editorial and Desktop Publishing exam in Spanish, demonstrating proficiency in grammar, spelling, keyboarding, and applicable software.
Work Experience
Seven years of experience in Desktop Publishing or related field, including draft typing, copy editing, formatting, proofreading and creating typographical layouts, is required. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the high school or secondary school diploma.
Languages
For the post advertised, candidates must have fluency in Spanish as their main language. Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Recruitment for this position is done on a local basis, whether or not the candidate is a resident of the duty station. Passing the Editorial and Desktop Publishing exam (EDP) at Headquarters or an equivalent recognised locally-administered test at a United Nations Office is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat.
