Background Information - Development Group Cluster
Development Group Cluster
The UNOPS Development Group Cluster is based in the North America Office and supports a diverse and complex portfolio including partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (the Bureau for Development Policy, the Human Development Report Office, and the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation), the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Capital Development Fund, the United Nations Secretariat and a broadening community of primarily New York-based UN partners in the delivery of project management, implementation and administration services.
Background Information - Job-specificThe UNDP Equator Initiative is a partnership that brings together the United Nations, governments, civil society, businesses, and grassroots organizations to build the capacity and raise the profile of local efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Through our partnership with Fordham University the Equator Initiative accepts two interns to work in the NY office during their Master’s Degree program in International Political Economy and Development. Started in 2002, the Equator Initiative evolved in response to: the fact that the world’s greatest concentrations of biodiversity are found in countries also beset by the world’s most acute poverty; and the evolving trend of local leadership in advancing innovative projects in biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction. As sustainable community initiatives take root around the world, they are laying the foundation for a global movement that is collectively making a significant contribution to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as well as adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change.Functional Responsibilities
