OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objectives are to provide an efficient, modern records service for the governing bodies and to ensure high-quality editing and timely production of documentation.
Description of duties:
1. Subject to the supervision of the Coordinator, DCM, as first-level supervisor and Director, Governing Bodies, as second level supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the editing of documentation for the governing bodies of WHO, such as the World Health Assembly and Executive Board, taking responsibility for the style, terminology, standards and presentation of official documentation and publications in English used for the deliberations of the governing bodies.
The editor works closely with the authoring units, providing advice and guidance on expectations and execution. He or she updates and maintains the official guidelines prepared for authors of governing body documents.
2. S/he supervises and revises, as necessary, the work of temporary editors and proofreaders, advising them on the treatment of complex material and ensuring that their work meets expected standards.
3. S/he contributes to the recruitment for, and organization of, the records services for governing bodies session. The incumbent is responsible for the editing and production of the official records of governing body proceedings, which embody the discussions, resolutions and decisions in English. Timeliness, accuracy, editorial consistency and impartiality are essential. The editor revises the work of précis-writers, edits the work of revisers, and writes the reports, summary records or minutes of meetings, as required. S/he coordinates the original English edition with editions in other official languages.
4. The editor develops and maintains the content and design of the Governance web site pages relating to the governing bodies. Contributes to the evaluation of the sites. Keeps abreast of current developments in the processing of documentation and presentation of official records using a range of on- and off-line media, and drawing on technological developments such as voice recognition software.
5. S/he carries out other duties as required including editorial/writing support to the cluster. Replaces the Coordinator in his/her absence.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
- Advanced University degree, preferably in the English language, biomedical science, or public health.
Skills:
- Thorough familiarity with modern editorial and publication processes.
- Knowledge of conference organization, including précis-writing and revision, at international level.
- Tact, judgment and firmness, combined with a diplomatic manner in dealing with senior staff, members of delegations and Executive Board members.
Other skills:
- Work requires use of standard WHO software (DTsearch, WHO Policy) as well as other tools to search and retrieve information electronically.
- Knowledge of Sharepoint and other web-based forums useful.
- Knowledge of other electronic aids to document processing useful, such as voice recognition technology.

Experience:
Essential:
- At least 7 years of experience, including national:
- several years' editorial experience, preferably as a technical editor in health-related fields, and international:
- Five years' editorial experience in WHO or similar UN body.
Desirable:
- Experience of modern techniques used in conference and records work in an international organization. Experience as a précis-writer or reviser.
Languages:
- Expert knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of French required.
Intermediate knowledge of another Official Language an asset.
Additional Information:

USD 72467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment:
