Job Description – Technician (Agriculture)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the Program Area Manager, Assistant Program Area Manager, Technical Advisors and staff todetermine program priorities and approaches, in line with project aims and objectives.
  • Lead development and implementation of plans for mentoring of field staff in agriculture; implementation of stafftraining plan based on team needs.
  • In cooperation with relevant staff in the organization and building on past experiences of WCM, further developappropriate approaches for:
  • Rice Banks and Rice Bank Committees
  • Animal Revolving Funds (in conjunction with TA Sustainable Agriculture)
  • Establish Farmer Field Schools in suitable areas to cover at least one crop season so that farmers are able to learnbasic FFS concept and relevant crop cultivation. The numbers of FFS to be decided upon should be based on ownwork load.
  • Provide ongoing technical advice; train staff, where necessary by involving external resource persons and thetraining unit, in enhancing their agricultural and community organization skills and take increasing responsibilityfor the project activities.
  • Work with field staff in designing and improving food security activities in line with project objectives. Direct theactivities of the program and staff to achieve the desired outputs.
  • Help staff develop their own specific activity plans. Regularly visit project areas and field staff, to encourage themand ensure progress. Monitor staff performance.
  • Monitor progress of program activities compared to the plans. Monitor the success of the program in reaching itsaim and objectives. Participate with the country office in carrying out evaluations as necessary.
Qualifications
  • B.Arg and/or experience in sustainable agriculture and community development experience in a technical supportrole.
  • Experienced in developing training modules and training materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to write plans and reports.
  • Willingness to travel and work in relatively difficult settings.Able to use computer in word processing program.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency in the English language is preferable.Able to work independently, and work gracefully under pressure.
