We seek qualified candidates for a Washington DC-based position of Director, Business Development and Partnerships to provide leadership and focus to EDL's business development efforts in close collaboration with Regional Business Units (RBUs), develop new funding and technical partnerships for regional program development and provide, as needed, technical assistance to RBU and country programs in the areas of finance and enterprise development.
Job Description:
FHI 360 is seeking a full-time Director: Business Development and Partnerships. The position will be expected to lead and serve as the primary focal point for business development activities in the Economic Development and Livelihoods (EDL) area, organize capture and proposal development processes for the department, and work with EDL technical experts and FHI 360's Regional Business Unit Directors to develop economic growth capture and proposal development expertise in their regions. In addition, the position will develop a new portfolio of projects in Latin America and Eastern Europe in collaboration with others across the organization, and provide technical assistance to RBUs and country offices as appropriate. As needed the position incumbent will provide technical oversight of selected project under implementation within the EDL portfolio.
The position reports to the Director of Economic Development and Livelihoods Department and participates in the senior leaders meeting of that department.
The ideal candidate will have more than 15 years' progressive professional experience in economic development including a ten year successful track record in winning USAID procurements and/or grants. In addition to the core business development function, the candidate will have considerable experience in managing and implementing USAID projects and possess clear knowledge of federal rules and regulations. The ideal candidate also brings technical skills in the core areas related to economic growth, such as financial services and enterprise development. Experience in capacity building of local organizations and training is essential. Strong writing and representational skills, combined with ability to lead innovation and drive opportunities, are a must for this position.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and serve as focal point for business development activities in economic development area
- Develop in collaboration with other Technical Directors the EDL strategy for bids and developing regional portfolios.
- Organize capture and proposal development processes for the unit
- Work with FHI 360's Regional Business Unit Directors to develop EG projects in their regions.
- Provide technical leadership around agricultural and value chain development, enterprise and private sector promotion, public-private partnerships, business development services, and market-based economic development.
- Provide technical leadership in design, development, planning, implementation; and capacity-building of specific technical components of various programs.
- Conduct and/or oversee country-level strategy development initiatives;
- Lead efforts in proposal development and new business capture for EDL
- Organize presentations and events, engaging relevant networks and communities of practice;
- Author white papers, briefs, and guidelines on good practices and program approaches;
- Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners and other FHI 360 departments and projects.
- Develop/maintain collaborative relationships with donors/clients, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs.
- Develop tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.
- Represent FHI 360 in appropriate technical forums, events, and conferences.
- Ensure that project implementation adheres to the appropriate global strategy and remains technically sound.
- Up to 30% travel to developing country locations.
Required Experience/Skills:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in economic development or related field as outlined above.
- MBA or Master's degree in international development, economics, social sciences or related field.
- Successful track record in business development
- Be a team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Must have experience with sub-grant management under USAID cooperative agreements.
- Must have ability to manage projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.
- Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Must have strong network, familiarity and experience with USAID rules and regulations, and other public andprivate donors;
- Must have experience writing USAID proposals.
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; Spanish or French language skills required.
