This team of networking professionals provides design, build and implementation services, documentation management, remote site coordination, standards compliance, network vendor management, leadership and ownership of the production Microsoft world-wide network.
Roles & Responsibilities
-Execution - Empower and lead one of the key teams implementing the global strategy for Core Infrastructure Engineering - manage team progression and training plans for technical skills and career progression, structure and define task level functions the team should perform and be responsible for implementing the day to day strategies to build and scale implementations of the network globally.
-Collaborate with team managers and other networking technical teams to implement project and program deliverables supporting the strategic initiatives necessary to meet Microsoft’s ongoing needs for both expansion and cost reduction.
-Performance - Measure and drive continuous improvement in organizational performance through the identification, implementation and reporting of key performance metrics and reporting, identification and reporting of task throughput, network defects, improvements in equipment lifecycle management, and process.
-Coaching & Mentoring - Provide technical and career guidance to employees through regular interaction and performance reviews. Regularly assess the performance and competencies of individuals and of the aggregate team identifying the appropriate development opportunities needed to optimize performance and retain key contributors.
-Resource Allocation - Ensure project entrance and exit criteria are being met, resource manage projects and initiatives, ensure that engineering resources are being utilized efficiently and appropriately. Develop engineering and process documentation, impact assessments, develop level of effort estimates for new project initiatives, and identify project dependencies & conflicts that pose risk to successful completion.
-Partner/Vendor Relationships - Develop and maintain partnerships with key equipment suppliers, provide a conduit for engineering escalation and escalation of network and project related issues to resolution.
-Trusted Advisor for Stakeholder Interactions - Support a wide array of stakeholder meetings to provide subject matter expertise when in depth technical discussion is required. Develop relationships where necessary in order to maintain confidence and credibility with key business groups and properties.
Skills & Qualifications
-Strong leadership skills with the ability to provide direction and develop a strong team of engineers in an interrupt driven, fast-paced environment
-Some commercial business experience and experience interacting with technical customer and vendor representatives
-Understanding of the use design and architecture of routers, switches, and transport devices
Experience Required
BS or BA degree or equivalent experience, preferably in computer science or technology.
At least 7 years of experience in networking technologies, including IP and transport network deployments, dark fiber builds, peering ecosystems, and a thorough understanding of domestic and global carrier networks. Additional experience in engineering and operating scaled carrier networks a plus.
At least 2 years of relevant experience with strategic negotiations and/or business development in obtaining services from high-technology providers in fiber, data centers, network transport, telecom or IT services.
This role requires flexibility and, the ability to work on various projects of different priorities. You must have a good attitude and be able to support limited travel. Must be able to document results learned and share information with the rest of the team. You must possess the ability to report and present project related data to leadership across various lines of business.

-IP, MPLS and Data Networking - Experience in design and management of large scale data networking teams from the network core through the edge and aggregation functions.
-Transport Layer Network Design and Services - Experience in leading teams designing or operating transport layer networks including experience with DWDM, SONET services and protection switching, and multi-channel optical layer design.
