Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, strategic fit, and financial capability. Conducting industry and market research. Assisting in the preparation of country and sector strategy papers, briefs and project profiles
Develop and promote IFC’s investment activities in the financial sector in Vietnam, as part of IFC’s overall Vietnam country strategies;
Work closely with the Global Financial Markets team in the Mekong and the Global Financial Market management to prepare and execute business development strategies and evaluate the attractiveness of specific transactions and making recommendation for IFC’s investments. Analyze industry trends in the Mekong Region and stay current with rapidly changing business and market environments.
Leading teams in sourcing and executing IFC’s investments with a strong focus on credit and asset quality. This would include sourcing and processing mandates, conducting due diligence, structuring deals and negotiating term sheets and other documentation syndications and internal approvals.
Assess investments from financial, technology/operations, management and governance viewpoints;
Coordinate with all relevant units, including advisory services, legal, credit and environmental and social, to structure, strengthen, document and close equity, debt and structured finance investments;
Managing IFC’s relationship with investee companies , which includes:
Keeping frequent contact with, and providing service to, the client;
Reviewing, analyzing and monitoring financial and operating positions of client companies;
Ensuring the terms of IFC’s investment are met and that IFC’s procedures are followed;
Analysis of waiver requests, recommending to IFC management a course of action, and preparation of necessary documentation.
Liaising with IFC’s Credit Department;
Participating in or, if required, taking the lead in restructurings and work-outs of under-performing or non-performing investments, in coordination with other IFC departments as appropriate;
Identifying opportunities for further IFC activities with clients, in the areas of technical assistance activities (e.g. linkages, sustainability), financial services (e.g. carbon credits, clean technology) and investment;
Monitoring of equity holdings and development and implementation of sales strategies to maximize IFC return and development impact;
Identifying early warning signals in assigned portfolio projects and where necessary, formulating/implementing strategies for work-outs, restructuring or rescheduling.
Lead moderately complex projects while ensuring good business promotions and skilled project planning as well as execution,
Maintaining strong relationships with clients, government officials and the business community to facilitate new IFC investments and maximize the success and impact of existing ones
Develop opportunities for technical assistance which will support IFC's investment activities
Contribute to IFC’s repository of industry specific know-how, key industry ratios, lessons learned, and other tools for better and more efficient decision-making.
MBA or equivalent qualification
At least 8 - 10 years experience in finance/ investment with a proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments
Experience in and analytical knowledge of emerging markets in general and the Vietnamese financial sector in particular;
Existing and usable network amongst financial and strategic investors in the Vietnamese financial sector;
Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity)
Business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively
Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese
Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds
Ability to mentor junior investment staff
Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards
Genuine commitment to sustainable development
Willingness to travel extensively and geographic flexibility

As part of the Vietnam and Mekong team team as well as the regional Financial Markets team, the Investment Officer will lead business development, execute transactions, and actively manage portfolio projects in the financial sector. He/she will establish and maintain strong relationships, at the highest levels, with banks and non-bank financial institutions, investors as well as with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
