Organizational Setting and Reporting
These two positions are located in the Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch of the Security Council Affairs Division, the Department of Political Affairs.
The Department of Political Affairs internships are for two months with an opportunity for an extension, depending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of an internship supervisor, the Intern will undertake a range of functions including, but not limited to:
Assist in maintenance and development of the Division's Lotus Notes databases through data entry tasks relating to meetings and decisions of the Security Council;
Assist in the maintenance of the Repertoire section of the Security Council webpages using Dreaweaver;
Conduct research and analysis of the work of the Security Council and its subsidiary bodies;
Draft studies for the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council and other publications;
Attend Security Council public meetings and prepare draft summaries;
Undertake other assignments, as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) preferably in political science, international relations, public administration or related field.
If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Experience in Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes applications; advanced experience in the use of database and spreadsheet software is an advantage
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
