JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title : Field Assistant Department : Yangon Office Reports To : Technical Officer Direct reports : none Background: Malaria Consortium is an international non-government organisation dedicated to improving delivery of prevention and treatment to combat malaria and other communicable diseases in Africa and Asia. It works with communities, health systems, government and non- government agencies, academic institutions, local and international organizations, to ensure good evidence supports delivery of effective services, particularly providing technical support for monitoring and evaluation of programs and activities for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. Malaria Consortium is actively supporting the national malaria Control program in Myanmar since 2008 and has recently established a permanent presence in Yangon. This office is the base for all operations in Myanmar. It is anticipated that Malaria Consortium's operation in Myanmar will grow rapidly within the next few years. Job Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Technical Officer, the Field Assistant will be for the coordination and implementation of field activities under the IMMERSE project in Myanmar. His/ Her responsibilities will need to be adjusted in accordance with variation of the work plan agreed. He/she will work very closely with Government health staff and other partners in collaboration with international consultants to organize regular meeting, training, workshop, field monitoring and evaluations and other events as required. Key Accountabilities:
  • Support the technical Officer in the implementation and coordination of mapping and micro-planning for hard-to-reach groups
  • Organize and facilitate travel of international consultants on the field level
  • Assist in the design, testing and production of BCC/IEC materials
  • Coordinate with Malaria Consortium regional and government health staff to organize meeting, training, workshop and event as required.
  • Assist Technical Officer in data collection, compilation and report writing as required.
  • Coordinate field activities with health centre staff and other NGO partners to avoid overlapping in the targeted areas.
  • Liaise with the local authorities to ensure that community participation and community networks are in place.
  • Identify needs which are not covered by the current projects, develop responses and submit them to the line manager
  • Support and coordinate field work activities linked to the PPA projects.
  • Support training to private providers on the use SMS technologies for referring malaria patients to the public sector
  • Provide regular progress reports to the line manager
  • Participate in other task as required
PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications:
  • Completed basic medical science course (M.B., B.S) or equivalent with at least 2 years work experiences in NGOs with community health services and/or malaria program.
  • Masters of Public Health is an asset. Essential:
  • Computer skills (MS Office: Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Point, Access) and statistical programs, such as SPSS, Epi Info.
  • Flexibility and ability to travel extensively.
  • Familiarity with local villages and geographically in Myanmar.
  • Working experiences with malaria program with governments, international and non- government organizations or community health worker.
  • Ability to write weekly and monthly report in Burmese or English.
  • Ability to conduct health education training sessions on basic prevention and treatment methods of malaria.
  • Good knowledge of mobile applications on Health and anti-malaria drugs.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluently in Burmese and English (both verbal and written), local ethnic languages is a plus. Desirable:
  • Experience in community health education (preferably in malaria).
  • Working knowledge of community based health care program. Work Based Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
  • Multitasking and multi-skilled applicants have an advantage
  • Demonstrated to work as team, collaboratively with health centre staff, village malaria workers, mobile malaria workers and NGO partners.
  • Ability to transfer skills and basic knowledge of prevention and treatment of malaria to community members' and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated of verbal, written communication and presentation skills. ANY OTHER KEY INFORMATION Contract duration: An initial period of 12 months with possibility of extension.
