Background
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for the United Nations dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally sustainable development of human settlements in an urbanizing world, with the goal of providing safer and inclusive human settlements. UN-Habitat established a presence in Myanmar in the early 1990-Ÿs through 2004 where the agency pioneered the 'people-Ÿs process-Ÿ by establishing the first community led projects in the Dry Zone, Shan State and the Delta. Over 2.1 million people were supported though developing community social infrastructure networks and facilitating access to safe water. The Community Water Supply and Sanitation (CWSS) Programme and the Community Initiative Support Facilities (CISF) Programmes were implemented by UNCHS (UN-Habitat). Today UN-Habitat continues to implement several normative and operational activities focusing on basic access of services to settlements, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and urban research/development programmes, and water supply and sanitation. As part of her normative activities, the agency is providing technical assistance on issues related to Habitat Agenda to its partners in Myanmar.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and supervision of the Operations Manager and technical reporting to the Senior Driver, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver provides driving services to the operations and programme staff in the CO, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission in Yangon.
  • Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and otheritems and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
Qualifications and experience
  • Secondary Education. Valid Driver-Ÿs license.
  • 5 years of driving experience and 1 year's work experience as a driver with an International organization, embassy or the UN system; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Fluency in Myanmar Language, knowledge of verbal and written English skills.
