Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon -UNIFIL. The Air Operations Assistant at this level reports to Chief Air Operations.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Air Operations Assistant will carry out the following duties:
Publish and schedule air transportation activities in accordance with the Department of Field Support (DFS) Aviation Manual, DFS Aviation Safety Program, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Local Area Procedures.
Provide inputs to the management about the efficient, economical and safe use of the UN air assets by bringing deficiencies to the attention of an officer.
Monitor technical and safety performance of aviation assets.
Planning of flight schedules.
Liaise with relevant aviation authorities for the coordination of flight clearances.
Performs systemic and systematic Operational Risk management for all planned, scheduled and executed flight activities and related activities. Perform management of change.
Ensure Documentation Control and that SOPs, policy, guidelines and procedures are in place and easily accessible.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Staff of the work section, Transport, Travel and Aviation staff
HQ Aviation Section.
Port Authority personnel within and outside of the field mission area
UN Agencies Aviation Section
Results Expected:
A well organized and efficient Air Operations Unit capable of carrying out the safe and efficient transportation to and from the field mission of both civilian and military personnel as well as equipment and goods. The planning, coordinating, adjusting and monitoring of all operational and safety activities simultaneously in an effective and timely manner. The provision of timely and well explained information on aviation safety requirements and related UN rules, regulations and safety procedures to field mission staff.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in Air Transportation, Safety Management, Air Traffic Control or graduation from equivalent military establishment or military/air traffic control training is required.
Work Experience
At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in Aviation including at least 2 years of experience in an occupation directly related to air transportation operations.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
