Position: Advocacy and Training Advisor
Period of Performance: October 1, 2013 – September 27, 2015
Background:
World Learning in Burma implements the Institute for Political and Civic Engagement (iPACE) to build the capacity of local democracy, labor and civil society activists. iPACE activities increase the knowledge and practical application of fundamental democratic principles and promote citizen engagement to inform more representative, accountable governance.
This is achieved through curriculum development and course implementation as well as facilitation of consensus building, networking, and support to advocacy efforts. World Learning will engage an Advocacy and Training Advisor to provide high-­-level support to the iPACE's
(a) networking events and advocacy consulting with program participants and
(b) curriculum development and training quality control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage planning and coordination of networking events based on iPACE participant needs and feedback. This includes networking and building relationships with governmental and non-­-governmental actors in key issue areas, under supervision of the Project Director.
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy, and to develop a cohesive n iPACE advocacy strategy on a term-­-by-­-term basis. This may include working with participants (or groups of participants) to advise on advocacy plans and identifying areas of iPACE support to those advocacy efforts.
  • Manage implementation of iPACE advocacy events or consultancies with participants.
  • Expand network of iPACE participants by broadening reach among political party, civil society and labor groups.
  • Assist Project Director and Program Officer with recruitment and selection of course participants.
  • Work with Project Director and Subject Matter Experts to evaluate course cirrcula for quality and relevance to Burma context.
  • Advise on selection of course offerings and module development.
  • Oversee and advise iPACE core trainers and co-­-trainers on proper course instruction and use of interactive activities.
  • Provide periodic feedback on training delivery.
  • Conduct Training of Trainers (ToT) with core trainers and co-­-trainers on curriculum content and course design.
  • Provide reports, blog entries or success stories on iPACE activities as needed.
  • Contribute to program development opportunities.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 4-­-5 years of professional work experience, preferably in the field of civil society, advocacy, and/or governance.
  • Prior experience assisting with advocacy campaigns preffered.
  • Priort experience as a trainer, including course design, material development, etc.
  • Prior experience conducting ToT preferred, especially in the civic education arena.
  • Ability to generate new and innovative ideas with limited resources.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Fluency in Myanmar and other local languages required.
The Advocacy and Training Advisor will report to the iPACE Project Director. The position is a 40 hour per week, full-­-time position.
