The Strategic Sourcing Group is a pivotal team within the Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Information, and Services (MSCIS) Organization. MSCIS is part of the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB) division. 

This Director of Strategic Sourcing, Tier 1 role will be directly involved in further developing Microsoft’s hardware muscle by managing the worldwide commercial relationships with our strategic hardware manufacturing and service partners. This role will have in-depth knowledge of Tier 1 manufacturing services, overall supply chain operations, and have end-to-end product development lifecycle expertise. The role will interact with senior level executives so strong business acumen and the capability to articulate strategy along with strong industry intelligence are critical. 
Success in the role will be evaluated based on successful Tier 1 strategy definition and its execution, competitiveness of negotiated manufacturing and service costs, health of business relationships, and Tier 1 performance. 
Primary Responsibilities include:
Sourcing Strategy: 
o Internally, you will have responsibility for developing and sustaining the Tier 1 vendor short and long-term sourcing strategy in order to achieve world class services with best-in-class pricing and terms. You will be responsible for driving and articulating the strategy discussions with Microsoft’s senior executives and management. 
o Externally, you’ll be responsible to sell a scenario that entices the world’s most successful manufacturing and service providers to provide world-class support by establishing long-term, productive business relationships. 
Transformation Cost Ownership: Own the entire RFP/RFQ process and the transformation of cost negotiations in order to achieve best-in-class pricing for all of our hardware products. An ability to stand up to the most aggressive alternatives, doubts and scrutiny is imperative.
Organizational Leadership: Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams and other Sourcing leaders to ensure our strategy includes all appropriate business opportunities and to drive strategy adoption towards alignment of the supplier roadmap. 
Account Management: Lead and manage global account relationships with executive and senior management levels from EMS companies as well as provide strategic business leadership, negotiations management, and execution of regular business reviews. 
Business Development: In new hardware or technology spaces, drive supplier selection through initiation of discussions, negotiation of master contracts and non-disclosure agreements, and work with the development teams to assess technological and manufacturing capabilities and overall ‘fit’ for Microsoft.
Execution: Drive budget compliance while maintaining solid relationships with internal teams as well as manufacturing service providers.

Functional Expectations/Experiences
Expertise in market analysis and sourcing planning to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc. to formulate sourcing strategies.
Expertise in Financial Statement Analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted.
Bottom’s up process costing utilizing Activity Based Costing and other methodologies to build should-cost models.
Professional experiences in “owned” factory operations and cost accounting. Make vs. Buy experiences a plus.
Superior project management skills (Consumer Electronics Integrated Project Management) adherence experiences.
Supply Chain Operation’s Management expert. Ability to assess and improve factory SMT, test, boxbuild production costs through improved efficiencies and yields. Ability to assess and improve total landed cost through supply chain analysis from component supply base through to distribution channel. 
Solid experience in complex, large contract and price negotiations.
Executive/Sales presence and professionalism with the ability to crisply articulate positions and build rapport quickly.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in strategic sourcing in the OEM consumer electronics industry AND/OR as a Commercial Account Manager in the contract manufacturer side of the industry.
