Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in the Financing for Development Office, Multi-Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach Branch. The Economic Affairs Officer reports to the Chief of Branch.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of Multi-Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach Branch of the Financing for Development Office, the Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Monitor, analyse and report on developments, actions and policy proposals related to specific thematic areas of the Monterrey Consensus, the Doha Declaration on Financing for Development, and related outcomes.
Provide inputs to the annual report on follow-up efforts to the Monterrey and Doha Conferences, as well as analytical studies, technical papers and publications on FfD.
Collect information and develop databases and qualitative information on FfD as requested; as well as set up models and interpret, apply and, as necessary, adapt econometric models to determine trends, patterns and relationships and to analyze the effects of alternative policies and assumptions.
Assist in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, panel discussions, round tables, seminars and briefings on the topics related to FfD, including through administration support, note taking, and report writing.
Prepare speeches and other inputs for presentations on topics related to the FfD process by senior staff of the Secretariat.
Follow intergovernmental and inter-agency meetings within the FfD follow-up process, take notes, and prepare summary reports and, if requested, prepare inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the FfDO's outputs and research.
Undertake on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area. Experience with the UN intergovernmental processes is desirable. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish desirable.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
