Location: Toronto, Ontario

Position Description
The Data Analysis Intern will work with and report to one to two Program Managers of the Financial Inclusion team, with frequent interactions with the Financial Inclusion Director and other Foundation staff. Successful candidates will demonstrate the Foundation's core values - Achievement, Innovation and Collaboration.
Role
The Data Analysis Intern will support the Financial Inclusion team on a range of activities aimed at advancing the team's analysis of its current portfolio and identification of new opportunities.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing a system to track targets reached by the Foundation's partners, and training the team on how to use the system. This will include understanding each partner's units of analyses, metrics, and data collection methodologies, and ensuring consistency when aggregating all partner's information. Partners include financial service providers, technical assistance providers, and mobile network operators.
  • Updating the list of on-the-ground organizations that the Foundation's partners work with, and researching those organizations' institutional standing using data from MIX Market.
  • Contributing to the team's knowledge of the landscape of financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa by collecting and analyzing data relevant to the team's work from credible sources.
  • Providing support on a day-to-day basis to update and organize partner activity list, track industry events, and developing and maintaining various databases.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Commerce/Finance/Accounting or a related field. Students starting their final year of studies may also be considered if they can demonstrate relevant experience
  • Previous experience of data analysis in the work setting, either in a full-time role, or internships
  • Financial modeling skills. Ability to process large amounts of data from a variety of sources, analyze them in alignment with project goals, present them strategically, and offer guidance on how to effectively use data
  • Demonstrated interest in social entrepreneurship and/or microfinance
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Keen interest in international development, financial inclusion, youth learning and/or philanthropic initiatives
  • Proactive, engaged and a self-starter with an ability to thrive in an environment of change
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong research, analysis and writing skills
  • Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Location
