Purpose of the Position
Promoting intersectoral partnership and internal capacity building to ensure UNICEF's approach to conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding informs all sectors, in particular Child Protection, Health, Nutrition, Water and Environmental Sanitation, including planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation; Establishing and maintaining UN and broader partnerships on peace building, in particular through the Peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiatives; 50% of the time will be devoted to the peacebuilding and child protection, education, health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene programmes and strategic communications; 50% to broader issues of conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding in support of the senior management of UN.
Key Expected Results
1. Takes the lead on the conceptualization and implementation of conflict analysis process based on a life cycle approach;
2. Facilitates overall programme design and implementation of Peacebuilding, Education and Advocacy programme, ensuring work plan and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined programme strategies and approaches.
3. Integration of conflict-sensitive principles across different UNICEF programmes ie Child Protection, Education, Health, Nutrition, Water and Environmental Sanitation across the programme cycle (planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation);
4. Builds strong partnership with all stakeholders (government, institutions, political constituencies, academia, development actors, civil society, and faith/community based organisations) on peacebuilding, to ensure that conflict sensitive interventions have a strong base and reach to the level of communities and households.
5. Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Peacebuilding & Conflict resolution documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and knowledge/information exchange, with partnerships and collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, capitalizing on the know-how and network of knowledge institutions. Manages the office partnerships with research institutions and other knowledge partners to ensure the continued generation of high quality evidence ensuring base lines, continued monitoring and validation of strategies and methodologies used.
6. UNICEF's global goals effectively promoted through advocacy and policy dialogue in all the sectors.
7. Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration, focusing on Peacebuilding and conflict-sensitive programming.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced university degree in social sciences with a focus on either: international relations, education, ECD, peace studies, peace building, conflict studies or other related field. *A first university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.* Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience at national and international levels in social development, peace building and conflict management, programme design and management. Field experience in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and conflict sensitivity. Experience in Social Cohesion /conflict and impact analysis and in design of education/ECD, peace and peace building programs highly recommended. Practical experience in complex emergencies / conflict-affected contexts strongly preferred Fluency in English.
