Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Interpretation Section (IS) of the Conference Management Service (CMS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
The incumbent will report to the Chief of Section.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Russian Senior Interpreter will be responsible for the following duties:
service up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies;
provide interpretation, as required, into Russian, of speeches and statements given in English and French or Spanish;
be routinely assigned to sensitive meetings;
function routinely as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting;
assist the Chief of Section, as appropriate, in the screening, training and examining of prospective interpreters;
serve as Chief of the Booth and as Chief Interpreter on missions;
may instruct and advise interpreter trainees by providing leadership and guidance to them;
as Chief of Section, take responsibility for the quality of the language and for motivating staff;
have frequent interaction with the Chief of Section, the Conference Officers, the Documents Officers, the Committee Secretaries or in their absence the Chairpersons and the Programming Officers;
may perform other related duties as required.

Education
First level degree from a university. Must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Interpreters.
Work Experience
Minimum ten years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations, five of which within the UN System highly desirable.
Languages
A perfect command of Russian and excellent aural comprehension of English and French or Spanish.
Assessment Method
Written test and competency-based interview.
