Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Transport Division/Transport Policy and Development Section internship is for 2-6 months with an opportunity for extension, if required by the division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or section to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Under the general guidance of the Division and Section Chiefs, and the direct supervision of the responsible officer, the intern will work in the area of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and his/her responsibilities include the following tasks:
- Identify and collect data on PPPs from various source, including national sources;
- Prepare case studies on successful/not so successful PPP projects;
- Assist in further improving ESCAP PPP training materials and PPP 'readiness diagnostic tool';
- Review legal, regulatory and institutional developments related to PPPs in selected countries;
- Keep track of activities carried out by other international organizations (ADB, World Bank, PIMAC, ECE, ERIA, EPEC, OECD, etc.) in the field of PPPs;
- Gather information on key private actors active in infrastructure development in the region;
- Assist in the formulation of policy briefs covering all aspects of sustainable development and infrastructure financing;
- Compile and prepare a report covering the above (as assigned) incorporating appropriate tables, graphs, charts with references;
- Make a presentation on the findings and outcome of the intern period including lessons learned to the Division's Professional staff.

Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (first university degree, or second university degree or equivalent, or higher) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
Work Experience
Applicants
- are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme;
- shall be computer literate in standard software applications;
- have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
