Responsibilities
This Generic Job Opening has been advertised to attract applications from qualified candidates, including serving staff in various Finance functions or Finance related positions such as Budget Assistant, Finance and Budget Assistant, Finance Assistant, and Cashier. These duties are generic and may differ depending on the requirements of the field mission. Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor, the Geographic Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:Assists in the timely preparation, maintenance and provision of geographic information and maps in support of the mission's operations;Collects, processes and evaluates geographic data including vector, raster and thematic data; Compiles large-scale operation maps and small-scale briefing/report maps; Assists in geographic/terrain analysis studies and prediction of the effects of terrain, weather and situation on the mission's operations;Archives mission's geographic data and maintains the mission's geo-database system; Operates the mission's intranet map server(s) and its associated services; Assists in providing geographic information training and education programmes for mission staff; Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational training in Cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or equivalent, which involves geographic information and image processing programmes are desirable.
Work Experience
At least six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in Geographic Information Systems, such as geographic information system integration, geographic/terrain analysis, image processing, mapping, GPS, and geo-spatial related information technology, and its related systems, including at least three (3) years of experience at the international level are required. UN Field experience in UN geographic information operations is desirable. Experience in multinational working environment is desirable. Knowledge of geo-database systems, software programming languages and web technology is desirable. Direct experience with geographic information applications including IPB (Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield) knowledge and experience in military, especially in Terrain Analysis Team, is desirable. Knowledge and practical experience of GIS software listed below is required. Applicant should indicate clearly with proof on his/her level of knowledge/practical experience in ArcGIS (ArcInfo, ArcEditor, ArcView and its extensions) and ERDAS Imagine. Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.
Languages
French and English are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
