icddr,b, an international public health research institution based in Bangladesh, has a 50-year history of innovation. Its research agenda reflects the full spectrum of global public health challenges affecting people living in poverty. In addition to world-class research, icddr,b provides vital humanitarian services, and has a strong record of knowledge translation, policy influence and training.
The incumbent will generate knowledge through multi-disciplinary research; oversee a portfolio of research projects; develop successful proposals and rigorous protocols; independently secure funding; and coach and mentor junior scientists with the objective of significantly impacting global public health programs and national policies and sustaining research excellence over the long term within the strategy of the Centre and icddr,b; and organisational values and guidelines (such as Institutional Governance Framework - IGF and Gender Diversity Guidelines).
The successful candidate will be a recognized professional with Doctoral degree with expertise in epidemiology and infectious diseases, at least 5 years of experience in outbreak investigation and surveillance activities in low-income countries; proven track record of mentoring students and junior scientists; experience supervising a large (>10), multi-disciplinary team of researchers, evidence of ability to write successful research proposals; demonstrated experience working with policy makers to design and deliver public health interventions; strong publication record including both first and senior authored publications.
icddr,b offers an internationally competitive remuneration package paid in U.S. dollars. This is a project position and the initial contract appointment is for three years.
