Ref 60011841-2 Country United Kingdom City London Department Office of the Chief Economist Business Unit OCE Closing date for applications 20 November 2013 Role Overview The Office of the Chief Economist ('OCE') consists of a team of around 50 economists, economic analysts, and support staff. It contributes to the operational, policy and strategy work of the Bank and provides intellectual leadership on the development of well-functioning market economies in the EBRD's region of operation, which comprises all countries in Emerging Europe and Central Asia, Mongolia, and most recently Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. OCE works closely with the Banking Department in structuring, appraising and monitoring investment projects that advance the transition to a market economy. OCE also initiates and participates in Bank policy initiatives, contributes to the development of country and sector strategies, and supports the Bank's operations by monitoring macroeconomic developments and risks. In addition, OCE undertakes economic research, and publishes the EBRD's Transition Report and other research-based papers and reports. The Office of the Chief Economist wishes to recruit a Regional Economic Analyst for south-eastern Europe (SEE). The analyst will be based in EBRD HQ in London and will report directly to the Deputy Director for Country Strategy and Policy, who is also regional economist for SEE. This role will be offered as a 23 month short term contract Key Responsibilities and Deliverables 
· Monitor and analyse macroeconomic performance and risks, and assess structural reform progress in the countries of south-eastern Europe; 
· Maintain department's databases on the region and monitor local media and commercial sources about economic and policy developments in the region; 
· Draft contributions for the department's regular publications, including the annual Transition Report, the flagship annual publication of EBRD; 
· Prepare regular growth forecasts and long-term macroeconomic scenarios to be used in the financial models by the Banking department; 
· Prepare presentations to be delivered in the Bank and to outside audiences; 
· Occasionally represent the Bank at policy and research forums; 
· Conduct theoretical and / or empirical research on economic issues of interest to the Bank. Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications 
· Strong analytical background in economics 
· Master's degree in economics or equivalent from a leading university or Bachelors degree and several years of relevant experience in the field; 
· Research or work experience in an area of interest to the Bank, including political economy, economics of development, financial economics, international economics and macroeconomics; 
· Excellent oral and written communications skills in English; 
· Experience of working with economic datasets and knowledge of statistical software packages would be an advantage; 
· Fluency in one or more of the official language of countries in south-eastern Europe is a strong advantage; fluency other languages of the Bank's countries of operation is also an advantage. Competencies & Personal Attributes
