Medical Officer with Research Group of Diarrhoeal Diseases and Epidemiology under the Centre for Food and Waterborne Diseases (Internal Advertisement #386/13)
icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates(Staff members & CSA holders) for the position ofMedical Officer with Research Group of Diarrhoeal Diseases and Epidemiology under the Centre for Food and Waterborne Diseases. The appointment will be made on a CSA basis for 3 months, which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
Duty station – Dhaka
Salary – Tk.71,155/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. No other benefit is admissible.
Job Profile
- Proposal and Protocol Development: Provide input to principal investigator on proposals and protocols development; read published journals, analyze existing data, and generate new ideas for possible projects; develop concept notes in collaboration with colleagues and PIs; prepare proposals with direction from PIs; support PIs in presentation of progress reports to donors (e.g. by creating supporting materials for distribution to donors) to be able to write meaningful proposals for funding in order to successful project implementation.
- Project Implementation: Interact with community leaders to seek buy-in for research activities; Coordinate with hospital staffs for list of patients in the hospital; Shortlist patients for enrolment in the research study; Seek consent from the shortlisted patients by providing rationale and answers to concerns raised; Record basic demographic information and detailed patient history for treatment; Direct team to implement research activities; Collect samples from patients and conduct other research activities (fill questionnaire, administer intervention etc.), when required; Coordinate with internal / external labs for sample analysis of included patients; Compile and record results; Update records; Follow-up on the health of patients to record outcome; Prepare report and share findings with the supervisor in order to execute activities in accordance with research protocol.
- People Management: Interview field research assistants and make hiring recommendations; promote a spirit of collegiality and gender diversity amongst team members and in the organization; Encourage team members to collaborate across areas; Address and resolve any diversity related issues; Set goals and conduct appraisals for the team; Set high standards and confront poor performance where needed; Mentor young professionals and prepare them for higher responsibilities; Identify and reward high performers; Recommend promotions; Take appropriate actions to manage poor performance (such as creating Performance Improvement Plans, coaching, job rotations, planning separations from icddr,b) in order to build and develop an engaged and high performing team.
Requirements:
Education and Relevant Experience :
- MBBS from a reputed medical college with BMDC registration and 1 year completed internship training
- 2 years of medical experience. Highly qualified candidates with relevant experience will be given preference
Functional Competencies:
Knowledge of
- Clinical diagnosis of cholera, determining dehydration status, patient care, clinical and behavioral counseling;
- Clinical trial and intervention, study designing, helping the PI in protocol development, and research implementation;
- Effective coordination and team management;
- Supervising the interviewing team and Data Management officer;
- Collection of clinical and environmental specimens and storing;
- Data collection and analysis;
- Data analysis, interpretation, communication, manuscript writing, and publication;
