Organizational Setting and Reporting
The internship is located in the Implementation Support Section of the Organized Crime Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria).
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Firearms Team Leader.

Responsibilities
  • To assist OCB/ISS in the overall implementation of activities under the Global Firearms Project
  • Assist with the review and finalization of the training curriculum on firearms and its customization to the Latin American and West African regions
  • Assist with the study on Firearms, assessment of the questionnaires on trafficking in firearms to ascertain their accuracy and consistency with international crime data collection standards and definitions
  • Assist in the development of a study on illicit trafficking in firearms
  • Support activities aimed at strengthening partnerships with Civil Society Organizations
  • To assist with any other ad hoc requests such as the drafting, reviewing and editing of reports, studies or papers, as well as with the with the preparation of any workshops, seminars or conferences that are held by OCB/ISS
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

Education
Applicants for an internship must be enrolled in a full-time university degree programme (Master's or equivalent) in a graduate school (second university degree or higher), or, if applicants are pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, they must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.
Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Spanish and/or French are required for this internship.

Special Notice
Duration: This internship position is for a period of six months, starting on 13 January 2014.
This internship is unpaid. The intern will work five days per week (40 hours).
