Additional information on the compensation package is provided on the WTO website: The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a position of Trade Policy Analyst in the Council and Trade Negotiations Committee Division. General Functions
Under the supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer responsible for managing the Trade Negotiation Committee (TNC), the incumbent will deliver the following key accountabilities:
- Assisting in organizing all TNC processes and meetings, including providing close support to the TNC Chair, taking into account the TNC's function of supervising the DDA negotiations.
- Assisting in servicing the TNC and all related activities and coordinating with the General Council, and negotiating and other bodies. Assume responsibility for specific aspects of this work, as assigned.
- Assisting in providing support to the TNC Chair, other senior management and the Director of the Division on the TNC matters, including procedures and decision-making processes.
- Participating in the organization and servicing of the Ministerial Conference.
- Contributing to the Division's outreach activities; ensure effective relationships and liaison with Members, relevant international and regional organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc. in the areas under the Division's responsibility.
- Supporting technical assistance activities on substantive issues related to the work of the Division.
- Developing his/her technical and policy related skills.
- Contributing to keeping the Division abreast of relevant developments in policy and knowledge.
- Participating in and contributing to other activities of the Division.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- An advanced university degree in international relations, economics, law or another relevant field, or a basic university degree combined with relevant professional experience that is equivalent to an advanced university degree.
Knowledge and skills:
- Good knowledge of the economic, legal and/or political theory and principles underlying the relevant WTO Agreements and system.
- Knowledge of and experience at national and/or international levels in the field of WTO law and practice, as well as horizontal knowledge and experience in the Marrakech
- Agreements is necessary.Good technical and analytical skills, as well as a high level of drafting skills (e.g. correspondence/reports, records of meetings, background papers).
- Sound policy-oriented research skills, as well as organizational and presentation skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to work in a diplomatic environment and interact with high-level diplomats and negotiators.
Work Experience:
- Minimum two years' relevant professional experience at the national or international level.
Languages:
- Excellent speaking and writing skills in English and another WTO language (French or Spanish).
- Good working knowledge of the third official language would be an asset.
