Research Assistant with the Research Group of Health Economics and Financing under the Centre for Equity and Health Systems (Advertisement #353/13)

icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position ofResearch Assistant with the Research Group of Health Economics and Financingunder the Centre for Equity and Health Systems. The appointment will be made on a Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis for 3 months, which may be extended for further period depending on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Duty Station – Dhaka

Salary - Tk.20,990/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. No other benefit is admissible.

Job Profile:

• Project Implementation:Receive project assignment from Principal Investigator (PI) and attend training conducted by Research Officer (RO) / Principal Investigator (PI) to understand project scope, questionnaire, survey methodology, and timelines; Create registry by household or other targeted population using GPS device; Visit field sites as per plan constructed by Research Officer; Administer the survey to random sample for data collection using pre coded questionnaires; Convince respondents to provide answers to complete the questionnaire; Validate collected data with RO; Escalate any issues to and seek guidance of RO to resolve issues in interacting with respondents and in collecting data; Submit collected data to the data management team periodically and cooperate with them for ensuring data accuracy and completeness in order to support research by uncovering evidence.
• Team Support:Train new FRAs in study methods; Demonstrate how to conduct interviews to team members; Observe team members while they conduct interviews; Intervene and moderate the interview with an uncooperative respondent, if required; Provide feedback to individual team members on their interviewing skills; Share experience and learning within the team in order to improve the productivity of the team; Enter data, manage and clean data under guidance and perform simple data analysis (frequency, 2x2 table); Perform literature search under guidance of PI/RO to support research by uncovering evidence; Work with PI in modifying survey tools by providing suggestions based on practical situation in the field in order to improve the productivity of the team.

Requirements:

Education and Relevant Experience:

• Bachelor degree in Economics/Health Economics/Statistics/Mathematics, Masters will be preferred;
• 2 years of experience in field research, data entry and management; Wiling to travel extensively to the field sites in Dhaka and outside Dhaka if required;

Functional Competencies

• Knowledge of Ethical Guidelines;
• Knowledge of data collection tools, methodologies and compilation;
• Knowledge on generation of cost data by using economics and statistical tools;
• Knowledge of computer operations (MS Office, Statistical);
• Workable typing skills in both Bangla and English.
