Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Head of Sub-Office in Sittwe and the technical supervision ofInternational Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM) Officer in Yangon, the ProgrammeAssistant will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Assist Head of Sub-Office with beneficiary targeting and community profiling to ensureeffective programming; provide VAM perspective as Sub-Office Project Review Committee;
  • Assist Head of Sub-Office with Monthly Reports, authoring sections related to the current foodsecurity situation;
  • Serve as focal point for all VAM activities in Sub-Office area (including technical managementfood security monitoring system);
  • Train Sub-Office staff as well as WFP implementing partners and other assessment or foodsecurity monitoring partners on food security analysis, assessment activities and food securitymonitoring;
  • Manage all assessment activity in Sub-Office area, assisting the VAM officer in design andimplementation of baseline and emergency surveys;
  • Manage market place monitoring system;Critically analyze all emerging food security information from Sub-Office to ensure that localcontext is adequately captured;
  • Perform data analysis using SPSS and efficiently work on a wide variety of databases;
  • Review and analyze secondary data and literature on food security;
  • Ensure effective coordination at local levels with food security assessment and monitoringpartners;
  • Perform other related duties as required by supervisor;
Qualification
Education:
  • Minimum secondary school education, preferably supplemented by courses in a field related to sociology, economics, agriculture, geography, nutrition, rural development and or similar relevantfield.
Experience:
  • At least four years of progressively responsible support or secretarial work experience including at at least two years in the field of food security, vulnerability analysis or other related field.
  • At least oneyear at G4 level or equivalent.
  • Experience assisting in survey design and implementation an addedbonus.
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of Computer word/data processing software (Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of specializedsoftware; for statistical analysis (such as SPSS, Stata, MS Access, dbase, etc.)
Language:
  • Fluency in both oral and written in English and Myanmar.
Critical Success Factors:
Ability to maintain accurate and precise records and to interpret and analyse a variety of data andresolve discrepancies. Ability to work accurately and systematically; to identify and resolve datadiscrepancies and operational problems.
Ability to perform detailed work and to handle a largevolume of work quickly and accurately under time constraints. Courtesy, tact and the ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Desired skills:
Training, and/or experience in using software related to the area of work such as geographicinformation systems (GIS) and statistical analysis software. Familiarity with quantitative andqualitative survey techniques.
