Basic purpose
To manage the Institute's intellectual property to ensure proper stewardship and build capacity to maximize deployment and impact, thereby sustaining lRRl's research agenda and mission as stated in the IRRI charter.
Roles and responsibilities
Major Accountabilities l Responsibilities 1. Manage Innovations Management Unit; 2. Devise a global lP asset management strategy for IRRI through formal and informal methods of IP protection; Identify, record, and manage the Institute's. intellectual property for maximum efficiency and value; 3. Evaluate, protect, promote: and maximize dissemination, use and adoption of benefits from and of the intellectual property of IRRI; 4. Recommend new and/or revisions to intellectual property and technology transfer policies and procedures of lRRl; Create an effective internal process for the evaluation of future lP assets; 5. Enable appropriate training for staff on intellectual property and management; 6. Initiate and facilitate mechanisms and transactions aimed at disseminating technologies and building relationships with a variety of partners; 7. Review, revise design and modify intellectual property provisions in documents and agreements such as, but not limited to, invention/copyright disclosure forms, licenses, research agreements, and confidentiality agreements, Review IP clauses in grant application, funding agreements and other proposals for consistency and agreement with lRRl's mission; 8. Identify risks and benefits in transactions and transactional relationships; 9. Monitors performance of lRRl's IP, including development, release, uptake, revenues and impact; 10. Develop maintain a network of potential partners to develop opportunities for IRRI's IP, and 11. Perform such other tasks as the senior management shall assign. Education and Experience
  • Minimum Education: a graduate degree in relevant field;
  • At least 5 hands-on years experience in licensing and recent engagement in intellectual property management.
  • Experience in nonprofit institutions an advantage.
  • Possesses at least 5 years experience with an excellent track record in building strong research collaboration with different sectors, including with private sector.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills; and possess sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and direction,
