Purpose of the Position
The purpose of the position is to ensure that communication materials produced in PFP both for internal and external audiences and use are of a high quality and adhere to the organization`s guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Expected Results
1. Provides technical expertise for quality control of communication materials produced in PFP both for internal and external use, including with National Committees, other UNICEF divisions, regional and country offices, partners and stakeholders. This includes reviewing, editing, proofreading and where necessary re-writing of correspondence, briefings, other documents and publications from the Director`s Office and PFP sections. Liaises with other Communication and Marketing units and other PFP sections in ensuring consistency of messaging in internal and external communication within PFP. Key End Results: PFP communication materials achieve high standards through quality reviewing, editing and proofreading. Consistency in messaging in PFP communication materials ensured.
2. Drafts briefings and prepares presentations for the PFP Director. Reviews and edits materials being developed by PFP for the Office of the Executive Director. Key End Results: High quality briefings and presentations drafted, ensuring thorough fact checking.
3. Prepares the PFP Annual Report, including coordination of the development of content in close cooperation with the PFP Director`s Office, Strategic Planning, Information and Investment Funds Section and heads of other sections, writing and editing. Coordinates the update of the Annual Management Plan. Key End Results: A high quality PFP Annual Report and Annual Management Plan prepared on time.
4. Coordinates development of content, preparation and editing of the PFP newsletter and regular staff updates in close collaboration with the Internal Communication Unit. Key End Results: PFP Newsletters and other staff updates edited to a high standard.
5. Contributes to updating and improving SOPs and guidance within PFP on preparing quality documents and contributes to training for PFP staff on writing for UNICEF. Key End Results: PFP documents for external and internal communication produced to a high standard. Training staff in writing for UNICEF is improved with the Editor's contribution.
6. Identifies and recommends ways of improving quality in PFP`s internal and external communication. Participates in the PFP Publications Committee. Key End Results: Improved writing in internal and external communication. Editorial guidance provided to the PFP Publications Committee.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- Academic qualification: Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, translation, literature, philology, international affairs, or other development-related field, with an advanced course in editing and proofreading. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Work Experience: At least five years of relevant work experience in writing, editing, editorial and publishing processes, working with designers, and communicating complex development results to a broad audience. This must include experience in writing and editing to a high standard for a public audience, and ability to interpret and visualize statistical. Experience in the United Nations system, with development or humanitarian work, is desirable.
- Language requirements: Excellent command of English, both oral and written, is essential. Working knowledge of one other UN language (preferably French or Spanish) is desirable.
