Background
Please note that this position is a maternity leave replacement for a period of up to one year, without possibility of further extension.
The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is the principal institution of the OSCE responsible for the human dimension. ODIHR is active throughout the OSCE area in the fields of election observation, democratic development, human rights, tolerance and non-discrimination, and the rule of law.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the ODIHR Spokesperson/Senior Press and Public Information Adviser, the incumbent performs the following duties:
- Developing, together with relevant ODIHR staff, publications in relation to ODIHR projects; compiling and editing general printed ODIHR informational material, including handbooks, background papers, fact sheets, etc.;
- Proof-reading and editing all English-language publications, ensuring accuracy and consistency with ODIHR policy and house style, and authorizing edited material for publication;
- Managing the production of the ODIHR Annual Report; compiling and editing contributions to the OSCE Annual Report;
- Conducting part of ODIHR's regular press work, including acting as Russian-language media focal point and drafting and editing press releases as required; acting as deputy for the ODIHR Spokesperson in his/her absence;
- Performing other related duties as required.
Necessary Qualifications
- University degree in political science, journalism, languages or other related field;
- Minimum of four years experience in publishing and/or journalism;
- Excellent analytical and drafting skills;
- Good knowledge of OSCE democratization and human rights activities;
- Computer literate with a good understanding of IT functions and experience in utilizing computers and software applications; very good knowledge and understanding of the Internet and social media;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Russian; working knowledge of Polish is an asset;
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
- Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.
Remuneration Package
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions as well as monthly changes of the post adjustment multiplier and exchange rate, is approximately EUR 4,000 (single rate) and approximately EUR 4,300 (dependency rate). OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Poland.
Social security will include participation in the Vanbreda International medical insurance scheme and OSCE Provident Fund maintained by the OSCE. The Organization contributes an amount equivalent to 15% of the employee's salary to this Fund and the employee contributes 7.5%. Other allowances and benefits are similar to those offered under the United Nations Common System.
Appointments are always made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
