Background Information - MACMine Action Cluster The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster (MAC) within the Global Partner Services Office(GPSO) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster was established in 1997. Based in New York, it has helped partners to significantly improve the lives of people in more than 30 countries across the world. The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster supports Mine Action efforts in both emergency and post conflict settings. It delivers fast procurement, recruitment and management services to facilitate humanitarian aid and launch emergency mine clearance. The Cluster is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. It is headed by the Cluster Chief who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Mine Action Cluster on behalf of its clients.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager or his/her designate, the Data Management Assistant is responsible for:
  • Populate clash area database by tracking locations offighting/bombardment in country(s) of interest and populate ArcGIS databasewith that information,
  • Run semi-automatic production of planning package for future deployment(s)
  • On-going adjustments to the official admin files for increased accuracy in data. Development of admin 5 (neighbourhoods) layer over the mayor cities for increased accuracy of data.
  • Creating sectorial layers of data based on clash data and geographical features for easier planning in deployment of multi-organisation co-operations.
  • Co-operation with other organisations in their planning with the clash area database.
  • Produce Arc-GIS maps as needed.
  • Undertake other data related tasks as required by the programme manager

Education
Secondary Diploma is required. Bacherlors Degree in Business Administration, Management or other relevant discipline would be an asset.
Experience
Work Experience To be considered for this position, you must have a minimum of 4 years of relevent experience in Data Management combined with:
  • At least 3 years of database entry
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated data analysis and information management
  • Experience working with UN/NGO's and/or post-conflict environments is desirable.
  • Experience in supporting projects and team management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Office 2003 and/or newer versions and Microsoft Access)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in GIS software, mapping etc.
Languages
Fluency in English and Arabic is essential.
