Job: Chief (International Transport)

Purpose of the Position
The Chief manages and leads the international transport unit which aims to provide complex logistics support operations and on-time delivery of UNICEF shipments.
Key Expected Results
- Define international transport strategy, policies and procedures and ensure effective integration of air, sea and surface transport operations, including coordination with other organizations in the area; - Provide leadership to review transport processes and bring change and solutions to maximize efficiency
- Responsible for all operational transport matters arising globally in accordance with the corporate standards and improving on-time delivery;
- Gather market intelligence through research and networking to improve the knowledge basis in UNICEF of the transport field;
- Ensure that risk analysis/management of international transport shipments is reviewed and identification of mitigation measures are carried out.
- Responsible for insurance related issues covering international transport (air, sea, multimodal, etc) and warehouse insurance globally.
- Ensure that accurate and complete reporting and internal control systems are functioning
- Supervise staff and ensure that all staff are adequately trained in order to achieve high working standards; Develop comprehensive training programs as required;
- Perform any other duties assigned
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- Academic qualifications*: Advanced University degree in business administration, engineering, computer science, statistics, economics (preferably transport economics), quality assurance, technical, statistics or management related to the area of work, i.e. air transport, surface transport, etc. Educated to Master`s Degree level, preferably within the areas of supply chain management, logistics management, *A first level university degree (Bachelor) in a relevant technical field as identified above, in conjunction with 12 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Work Experience: At least ten years of experience in the area of logistics, shipping, supply management, supply chain management and supply support to development programmes. Demonstrated capacity to work within the international development environment, managing supply chain and information systems and managing supply chain operations in resource poor environments.
- Any other requirements Specific technical knowledge required for the post: Supply chain management, logistics management
- Language requirements: English and another UN language
